Optimmunize 2022 is being held in Odense from 9-11 November 2022.
Optimmunize 2022 brings together epidemiologists and immunologists investigating the overall health effects of vaccines.
Until recently it was believed that vaccines only caused specific immunity, nothing else. However, epidemiological studies have revealed that vaccines affect all-cause mortality and morbidity much more than explained by the specific effects – they have non-specific effects on the immune system that alters the course of many subsequent infections. Particularly the epidemiological studies pose some interesting methodological challenges. Where possible, randomized trials have been conducted (and confirmed non-specific effects) but often trials are not possible, and researchers have had to rely on multiple different observational designs and triangulation. The conference should thus be relevant to people with an interest in vaccines and in epidemiological methods.
