The winner of Schroll Prize for Excellence 2025 is Anne Helby Petersen, Department of Public Health, University of Copenhagen

The board's justification

Among the many impressive candidates for this year’s Schroll Prize, one stood out. The board of the Danish Epidemiological Society has chosen to award the 2025 Schroll Prize for Excellence to Dr. Anne Helby Petersen.

Dr. Petersen studies life-course epidemiology and focuses on methods for causal discovery, including machine learning algorithms. She has advanced causal discovery methods by demonstrating how data-driven approaches can complement theory-driven approaches in constructing causal models.

In selecting Dr. Petersen, the board emphasized that she made important contributions to methods development and application, as her work expands and develops the epidemiological toolbox. In addition, she devotes major effort to disseminate complex knowledge in and understandable manor in her teaching and as a speaker at numerous conferences.
